Social Art Practice
Professor James Jack
In this course, students are required to undertake reflections of their ideas and interviews of others a total of five times during this course. At the beginning of the module, students will start with audio and visual methods of creation. Then, they will progress towards more open exploration. Typically, the first assignment will be a self-Interview, audio-recorded, for others to get to know other class participants and their motivation and engagement with art and social issues.
Specifically, the script for these assignment is the following: “Find a media you are comfortable in as a space for you to consider things you encounter related to social practice art from your own creative viewpoint. The format is open for you to decide, i.e. paper, digital, memos, visual, audio, however you must capture the moment when you are inspired and not wait. Select a format that makes you feel most free to express yourself. You must bring one of your reflections to class when required and submit the other three reflections on canvas by the deadline listed in this syllabus.”
